KATEK (KATILINGBANONG TUBANG ALANG SA EDUKASYON SA KABATAAN)
KATEK was established in 1992 by the Redemptorist parish in Davao City, Mindanao, Philippines. Its vision is to create a society embedded into modern day culture through the nurturing of peaceful children.
KATEK - MISSION
KATEK’s mission is to provide an academically excellent and life promoting early childhood education program for economically disadvantaged children in the most remote mountain villages and in areas with special needs. It is designed to teach the children about the interconnectedness of all of life and their role as stewards of Creation. Its initial emphasis was on psychological rehabilitation of the children and gradually expanded to peace building in the community and environment with its curriculum designed by adopting the philosophy and method of Dr Maria Montessori.

The number of children and teachers in KATEK have increased significantly over the years and is anticipated to continue expanding. Unfortunately, the expansion can only be made possible with sufficient funding.

KATEK – OBJECTIVES
- To provide an environment that facilitates the child’s intellectual, spiritual, social, physical and emotional growth;
- To foster in the child, an awareness of his dignity as a child of God, of his role in the scheme of life and his responsibility towards others and towards the environment;
- To facilitate the building of a child friendly community by educating its members and by co-ordinating with government and non government agencies tasked in promoting and safe guarding the rights of a child;
- To participate in the rehabilitation and preservation of the environment.
KATEK – DKA FUNDING OF KATEK
Over the past 15 years, KATEK has been funded by an Austrian funding institution, Dreikoningsaktion der Katholischen Jungschar (a.k.a DKA Austria)
These funds are used to cover:
- the implementation of the day care program in the 5 centers;
- the improvement of the relationship with parents and community. i.e though parents orientation, parents education on children’s rights and community celebrations;
- reaching out to KATEK graduates and building up of a support group for KATEK projects;
- staff development
- administration, monitoring and evaluation of the project
WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY (THE KIDS’ CANCER PROJECT)
The Write a Book in a Day (The Kids’ Cancer Project) is a fundraising event held annually to raise money to children affected with cancer. Every year, children raise money by writing a book for the children that are deeply affected by cancer. Children are asked to raise money by seeking sponsors such as family or friends. The Foundation has helped donate funds for The Kids’ Cancer Project for future research into cancer.
